  • 50th Charter Anniversary Luncheon

Our 50th Birthday Luncheon was held on Sunday 14th August at he RACV Country Club, Healesville and was a phenomenal success. We had over 150 guests including Lions, sponsors, volunteers and members of the public.

The afternoon was filled with fellowship, celebration, presentations and awards, and the audience was shown power point displays that captured some of the history and projects of the Lions Club of Healesville over its 50 years of service to the community.

Our only surviving charter member Maurie Gray received a William Tresise Fellow Award and his wife Mary a James Richardson Award for their outstanding contribution to the Healesville and district community through Lions service. The awards were presented on our behalf by our District Governor Lou Onley.

We were very privileged to have an impromptu visit from Tony Benbow, a Past District Governor and Past Council Chairman of Lions Australia, and current Australian Lions Foundation Promotions and District Liaison Chairman and Trustee (V Districts), who made a special detour on his way to International Lions duties in Chicago to present a very special award to our charter member Maurie. The Australian Lions Foundation has just created a 50 years service medallion to commemorate such an achievement, and Maurie is the first ever recipient of this new award.

Our thanks to ANZ and the Yarra Ranges Council for major sponsorship of our luncheon.
